How many days does it take to fit a new floor?

Accepted Answer

A wood or vinyl floor over a 40–60 m² London ground floor is usually three to five days with subfloor prep included. Hand-laid herringbone or parquet runs longer — roughly six to ten days over that area — because the pattern is set out and laid block by block. Tile and stone depend on the prep and the setting-out. We give you a dated plan at the quote stage so you know when the room comes back into use.

Can you lay a new floor over the existing one?

Accepted Answer

Sometimes. LVT can often go over an existing level, sound hard floor, and so can a new floor over a flat screed. Wood usually needs the old floor lifting and the base levelling first, because laying over an uneven or hollow floor is exactly what causes creaks and gaps later. We check the subfloor on the survey and tell you whether prep is needed — levelling typically runs £4–£11/m² where it is.

Should I buy the flooring, or do you source it?

Accepted Answer

Either works. Sourcing it through us usually saves 10–15% off retail via our supplier accounts, and it keeps one team responsible if a board turns up damaged or a batch is short. We can lay any brand — the well-known wood and vinyl ranges among them — or fit material you've already bought. The floor and the labour are always separate lines on the quote.

What subfloor preparation is included?

Accepted Answer

A level, dry base is essential for every floor we lay, so basic prep is in the quoted price: lifting the old floor, light levelling and moisture testing. Bigger work — a self-levelling compound over a cracked or uneven screed, or repairs to a suspended timber floor — is priced separately once we've seen it, typically around £4–£11/m². We'd rather flag and price the prep up front than lay a good floor over a bad base.

Can you restore or match an existing wood floor?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We sand and refinish original boards and parquet, repair split or damaged sections, replace missing pieces with matched reclaimed timber, and blend the stain so old and new read as one floor. Restoring a roughly 40 m² floor is typically three to four days of lifting, repairing, sanding and sealing, done with dust extraction rather than an open sander.

Does underfloor heating work with every type of floor?

Accepted Answer

No — and it's worth getting right. Engineered wood, tile, stone and LVT all run happily over underfloor heating, because they're stable under the temperature changes. Solid wood and thick-underlay carpet don't: solid timber moves too much and carpet insulates the heat away. We'll flag any clash before you commit and steer you to a floor that suits both the room and the heating. Underfloor heating itself sits in our wider fit-out and renovation work.
