How long do fitted wardrobes take?

A single run of fitted wardrobes in one bedroom is usually one to two weeks from the first measure to the final coat of paint. Most of that is build time in the workshop; the part in your house is short — typically two to three days to fit and finish. If you're doing several rooms, we'll run more than one at once so the whole lot doesn't drag on, and you get a dated plan before we start.

Can you match the mouldings and joinery in a period house?

Accepted Answer

Yes. We copy existing profiles — skirtings, architraves, panelling and door details — so new joinery sits next to Victorian or Edwardian originals without an obvious join. Where it helps, we'll take a short offcut of your existing timber as a pattern and match the profile, the colour and the finish to it. Matching old work properly is a normal part of what we do, not an extra.

Do you design the joinery, or do I need drawings already?

We design it. For bigger pieces — media walls, full-room panelling, a staircase, a library — we produce scaled drawings so you can see and sign off the piece before we cut anything. For simpler items like wardrobes or alcove shelving, we work from a measured survey and your brief. If you already have a designer's or architect's drawings, we'll build straight from those instead.

What timber do you build in?

Accepted Answer

Standard choices are European oak, ash, walnut and tulipwood, plus a high-grade board for painted finishes. For period work or something more unusual we also use sapele, wenge and reclaimed oak. Tell us the look and the budget and we'll put up options at a few price points — solid hardwood where it shows and earns its cost, a stable painted carcass where it doesn't.

Can you fit in a house we're still living in?

Yes, and most of our joinery is fitted that way. Because the pieces are built off-site to exact measurements, the on-site stage is usually just two to three days of fitting and finishing per piece rather than weeks of mess. We sheet the floors and the route in, keep the work to one area, and clean down at the end of each day so the rest of the house stays usable.

Question 6

Is the joinery finished by you, or do I need a separate painter?

We finish it ourselves. Painted pieces are best sprayed for a smooth, brush-mark-free coat — done in the workshop before fitting where the piece can travel, or on site where it can't. Stained and oiled timber is finished the same way. The finish is part of the quoted price, so you're not handed a bare carcass and left to find a painter.
